Registration opened today for the upcoming ÁT event, “Realising Equality through Active Participation”, taking place on 3rd December 2014 in the Davenport Hotel, Merrion Street, Dublin 2.  Tickets for the event, which is free to attend, can now be booked by clicking here.

Held to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this event from Áiseanna Tacaíochta (ÁT) will examine the evolution and lived experience of Independent Living and Direct Payments for people with disabilities in Ireland, and the ways in which society can come together in solidarity to promote equality and active citizenship for all.

Exploring the concepts and context of Independent Living, the event is set to be a day of great insight and possibility, forging new ways to securing true inclusion and equality for everyone.  Sara Burke, journalist and policy analyst, will act as our chair for the day, and Madeline Clarke (Genio), Pat Clarke (Disability Federation of Ireland), Owen Collumb and Martin Naughton (founding members of ÁT), Michael Doyle (Irish Wheelchair Association), and Johnny Ryan (Leader) stand among our exciting range of speakers, with many more to be announced in the run-up to the event.

At ÁT, we are challenging society to move towards a more fair, equal and inclusive future for all.  Everything we do is underpinned by the values of human rights and Independent Living, and your attendance at this event will represent another step forward to making this the reality for all.

The event is open to everyone, but will be particularly valuable to people with disabilities and their families, disability organisations and wider community groups, health sector workers, Governement and agency representatives, social entrepreneurs and philanthropists, and members of mainstream society interested in strengthening their communities.

For more information on the event, please contact info@atnetwork.com or call the ÁT office on 01 525 0707.  All media enquiries should be directed to Orlaith Grehan on 086 183 1502 or by emailing orlaithatnetwork@gmail.com.
