Contact details for confidential recipient of complaints against disability services released

Áiseanna Tacaíochta (ÁT) welcomes the release of contact details for Leigh Gath, the confidential recipient for complaints against disability services from whistleblowers.
In the wake of the revelations of abuse and neglect at the Áras Attracta centre in Mayo last month, the Health Service Executive (HSE) appointed Ms Gath to the role in December.
Ms Gath is a well-known and respected disability campaigner, who lives with disability herself as a result of thalidomide. Based in Limerick, she will initially work from home before moving to an office in Dooradoyle, following a short period of refurbishment.
Although the terms of reference for her role have yet to be finalised, a key aspect of Ms Gath’s work will involve deciding on where to send a complaint after receiving it; possibilities could include the relevant state and regulatory bodies, such as the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), or the Gardaí. Tony O’Brien, Director-General of the HSE, has told Ms Gath that she will have access to legal counsel and will be provided with administrative support.
If you have any concerns or information about malpractice or negligence in HSE-funded disability care services, please get in touch with Leigh Gath, using the contact details below:
